In my coaching practice I prioritize integrity, respect, and the well-being of my clients, underpinned by the principles of honesty, fairness, and accountability. This way I strive to ensure that the coaching process is both professional and beneficial.

Coaching standards help protect clients by setting expectations for behavior and performance, reducing the risk of unethical practices that could harm clients or undermine the credibility of the coaching profession.

My Coaching Ethics and Principles

As a coach, I adhere to the following principles in my practice:

  1. Client Comes First. Before or at the initial meeting, I ensure you, as a client, understand the nature and potential value of coaching, the nature and limits of confidentiality, financial arrangements, and any other terms of the coaching agreement. I do my utmost to fully inform you of the services that you are acquiring and have a clear understanding of any contractual terms that may be put forward. I address openly and fairly any questions or concerns you may have so that you can feel comfortable making a well-informed decision.
  2. Trust and Privacy. I treat you with dignity and respect. I adhere to openness, honesty, and fairness in my professional relationships. I am non-judgmental and do not discriminate against culture, gender, religion, age, sexuality, race etc. I acknowledge and uphold your intrinsic worth, dignity, and autonomy in a manner that honors and respects your values, beliefs, and goals.
  3. Protect Your Rights. I abide by a strict confidentiality policy. Your identity, well-being, and whereabouts are strictly kept in confidence. Provided information is to be used outside the contractual engagement (articles, statements, case studies, references), I will obtain your permission and consent before any information is made available. You will be offered a copy of the information, and you have the right to veto its contents. I do not disclose information that is given in confidence, unless it is permitted by you in writing or as required by law, and refrain from offering professional information or advice that I know is confidential, misleading, or beyond my competence to assess its truthfulness.
  4. I am aware of and agree to comply with all applicable Data Protection laws that relate to handling personal data and communications. I do not use my client’s personal, professional, or other data, without their consent. I will obtain written permission from any client or potential client before releasing their names as referees. I respect the absolute rights of clients’ confidentiality, except as expressly permitted by the client or potential client in writing or as required by law. Upon agreement, it could be possible to share coaching information with my NMC Supervisor (no personal data) to enhance my learning and skills. I refrain from offering professional information or advice that I know to be confidential, misleading, or where the accuracy is beyond my competence to assess.
  5. Effective Communication. I ensure that communication with you is clear, thorough, and relevant to the nature of the service that is contracted and delivered. I listen actively and use a range of different interpersonal skills relevant to your needs. Where applicable, communication will be provided in writing. Our sessions could be recorded for future reference and your consumption of information only after verbal and/or written consent is given by you.
  6. Setting Boundaries. Upon your engagement with me, we will mutually define and agree on the rules and boundaries to adhere to with the sole purpose of protecting both parties physically and emotionally. Jointly we define what is acceptable and what isn’t such as time duration and frequency of sessions, location of sessions, forms and matters of keeping regular contact, cancellation notice period, etc.
  7. Honesty and Correctness. I am honest in relation to my qualifications, experience, capabilities, and accreditations, and should I deem myself unfit to provide the services you need I will openly share the information with you. I will voice any conflicts of interest to you, if and when, they arise and agree to a course of action that would be mutually acceptable to us.
  8. I am aware of my values and competencies. If at any moment I am not in the position to provide the utmost client care, I will inform you should I not be able or capable of providing the expected service. I could refuse to engage if a service is outside my knowledge or skill level that could negatively affect you. I work openly and cooperatively with you and where and if deemed necessary I will suggest a different coach or resource where you will be better served.
  9. Conflict of Interest. Should I happen to be involved in multiple interests where serving your interest could work against or be in conflict with them, I will diligently let you know of such conflict. My disclosure of any conflict of interest will be open and transparent with you and if a conflict arises that cannot be managed effectively, I agree to withdraw from the relationship. I will clearly distinguish any professional relationship with you from other engagements and/or forms of relationships.
  10. I commit to a coaching mindset and professional quality that encompasses responsibility, respect, integrity, competence, and excellence. I will reach out for support to determine the action to be taken and, if necessary, promptly seek relevant professional guidance. This may include suspending or terminating my coaching relationship(s).
  11. Contract Termination and Ongoing Responsibilities. I respect your right to end the service at any point in the process, subject to the provisions of the coaching service agreement, provided one is in place. Should the case arise where I consider you will be better serviced by other coaches or professionals, the undergoing coaching service will be terminated, and any documented references will be transferred to you. Post coaching service termination, I will continue to maintain the confidentiality of all information concerning you with careful and ethical management of confidential, personal, or other data.
  12. Professional Conduct. I adhere to Noble Manhattan Coaching Group Code of Ethics, International Coaching Federation Code of Ethics, and the Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors, and Supervisors in all my interactions. When I become aware of a possible breach of the Code by myself or I recognize unethical behavior in another coach professional, I respectfully raise the matter with those involved. I hold responsibility for being aware of and setting clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries that govern interactions, physical or otherwise.
  13. Safety and Well-being. It is my utmost desire to provide a safe environment for information exchange, a needed space for thriving, thinking, experimenting, and growing. I am determined to ensure your well-being in a coaching environment free of bias, open, honest, respectful, and comfortable.
  14. I am willingly accepting feedback on how to improve my coaching practice as well as matters that I need to rectify in my coaching services. Provided there are any mistakes or shortcomings that have been omitted during my services to you I will work to rectify them promptly.
  15. Responsibility to Society. I recognize and honor the contributions and intellectual property of others, only claiming ownership of my material. I understand that a breach of this standard may subject me to legal remedy by a third party.

What Can Clients Expect?

  • Discovery and Goal Setting: Your first sessions will be focused on understanding your current situation, challenges, and aspirations. We will explore your values, help you gain clarity, and define your goals.
  • As a coach I will be your Partner and Support: I will not be your boss or manager. I will actively listen, challenge your thinking, and offer guidance, but ultimately, the solutions come from you.
  • Action and Accountability: Expect to be challenged to take action between sessions. I will hold you accountable and celebrate your progress and success.
  • New Perspectives: I will help you see situations from different views, uncover limiting beliefs that may be holding you back, and work towards overcoming them.
  • Progress, but not necessarily perfection: Change takes time. Expect setbacks along the way. The coaching process equips you with tools to navigate challenges and stay motivated.

What Clients Cannot Expect?

  • Quick Solutions: Coaching is a journey, not a destination. There will be no quick solutions that you can apply, it’s a process where timing is purely dependent on you and how committed you are to putting the effort on your side.
  • Advice Giving: I cannot and will not tell you what to do. I will do my best to empower you to discover your solutions.
  • Therapy: Coaching focuses on future-oriented goal achievement, not dwelling on past experiences. If you have unresolved emotional issues, therapy might be a better fit.
  • Doing it Alone: I will be there to support you, but ultimately, the success of coaching relies heavily on your commitment and action.
